Darwin Glass

Name: Darwin Glass
Location: Darwin Crater
Tasmania, Australia

A circular depression, one kilometer in diameter, is situated 5 miles southeast of Mt. Darwin. The crater was possibly associated with the event which produced Darwin glass. Originally, Darwin Glass was classified with tektites. Now, it is generally recognized to be a typical meteorite crater glass. Though it is not certain, it is believed that this glass was formed by the impact that formed the one kilometer diameter, Mount Darwin Crater, about 700,000 years ago.
