Lahoma History

Name: Lahoma
Location: Major County
Oklahoma .
Type: Olivine Hypersthene Chondrite L5

A single oriented individual was plowed up by a farmer in 1963 but was not recognized until 1998. He, believing

it was a meteorite, kept it for 35 years before scientific studies proved him correct. This is an excellent example of

a fresh, shocked L chondrite. Fine dark shock veins are visible (but Barely) in the shock-darkened matrix on some

cut and polished surfaces. The total known weight recovered was about 21.8 kilograms.

This meteorite was published in the Meteoritical Society Bulletin No. 83
