Viedma History

Name: Viedma
Location: Rio Negro Province
Argentina

Type: Ordinary Chondrite L6

This meteorite was found in February 12, 2000 and possibly fell in November 5, 1998. A single stone of 6.9 kilograms was recovered by a gold prospector on Balneario el Condor Beach. Local newspapers reported a fireball traveling from west to east that detonated over Viedma on November 5, 1998. The find location of this stone was very close to the fall location suggested in the newspaper artical. The freshness of this material supports the conclusion that this material is likely from that fall event.
